Brothers RLFC raise awareness for Indigenous Literacy Day

Indigenous Literacy Day was on Wednesday, 1st September 2021.

The important day aims to raise awareness towards closing the literacy gap between indigenous and non-indigenous students.

To help raise awareness for this great initiative, Community Engagement Officer, Coach and Caption of Brothers Cairns RLFC, Jordan Biondi-Odo, read a book with Cairns Library.

Jordon chose to read ‘Once I Munched a Mango’, written by Samantha Wheeler, illustrated by Shannon Horsfall.

This book is part of the First 5 Forever, “Stories for Little Queenslander” Series.

First 5 Forever is a literacy program delivered by public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres with the aim to provide strong early literacy learning for Queensland children aged 0-5 years.
